ATLANTA – State Representative Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth) commends eleven citizens from House District 25 for receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest ranking award in the Girl Scout program. The recipients will be recognized during Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta’s annual Gold Award Ceremony on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
“These eleven young ladies have set a great example for their peers and the rest of our community,” said Rep. Jones. “This Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta’s program has a long history of encouraging and training exceptional young women who go on to make a lasting impact in the Atlanta area, and I am proud that so many bright citizens from House District 25 have received this prestigious award this year.”
The eleven recipients are: Heranmayee Barani, Neha Vijay, Abigail Waits, Triya Veeramani, Varna Veeramani, Yashodhara Velayudam, Trisha Vemulapalli, Shrida Venkatesh, Tara Ravindranathan, Nithilaa Karthikeyan and Riya Jegajeevan.
The Gold Award process takes place during the final four years of a scout’s time in the program. These eleven recipients were chosen for their background skills, knowledge of the Girl Scout program and support and guidance for their troop advisors and other adults. Requirements for this award include leadership activities, a service project and the completion of a Gold Award project.
For their project, each girl completed a community impact project that consisted of leadership, providing a service while including others in the execution of the project, as well as educating others on their issue. Each project must be sustainable, have a measurable outcome and a global/national link.
