Rep. Tommy Benton Named Chairman of House Retirement Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Tommy Benton (R-Jefferson) as the Chairman of the House Retirement Committee and Secretary of the Education Committee. Rep. Benton will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Human Relations & Aging, Rules and Transportation committees.

“I appreciate Speaker Ralston’s confidence in me to appoint me to chair this very important committee, which looks after billions of dollars in state retirement system funds,” said Rep. Benton. “I look forward to serving on this committee to continue to work for our retired citizens across Georgia.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

 Representative Tommy Benton represents the citizens of District 31, which includes portions of Jackson County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004 and currently serves as Chairman of the Retirement Committee and as Secretary of the Education Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources, Human Relations & Aging, Rules and Transportation committees.
