Rep. Victor Anderson Named Legislator of the Year by Natural Gas Association of Georgia

ATLANTA – State Representative Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia) was recently named Legislator of the Year by the Natural Gas Association of Georgia. Rep. Anderson was presented with the award at the Natural Gas Association’s annual summit in Braselton, where Rep. Anderson also served as a legislative panelist during the event.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Natural Gas Association of Georgia and for the opportunity to discuss the importance of supporting the ‘all fuels bill’ at the annual summit,” said Rep. Anderson. “It was a privilege to be the primary sponsor of the original legislation to ensure Georgians can choose the best fuel source for their living spaces and their livelihoods. I appreciate the association’s dedication to promoting the safe and direct use of natural gas, and I look forward to continuing to work toward a brighter future for Georgia’s energy landscape.”

Rep. Anderson was selected as the Natural Gas Association of Georgia’s Legislator of the Year for his work and support for the “all fuels bill” during the 2023 legislative session. Rep. Anderson was the primary sponsor of the original “all fuels bill,” House Bill 438, which was eventually incorporated into HB 374. House Bill 374 establishes the “Landscape Equipment and Agricultural Fairness (LEAF) Act,” which prohibits local prohibitions or regulations that distinguish or create differing standards for gasoline-powered leaf blowers from any other gasoline-powered, electric or other type of leaf blower. The bill also prohibits governmental entities from adopting any policy that restricts the connection or reconnection of any utility service or sales of certain fuels based on the type of source of energy or fuel delivered or the appliance used by the customer. Another provision of this bill provides guidelines and requirements for municipal deannexations and prohibits deannexations that result in the formation of unincorporated islands or non-contiguous areas within the municipality. This bill received final passage from the House and Senate during the 2023 legislative session and has been sent to the governor for his consideration.

The Natural Gas Association of Georgia (NGA of Georgia) was formed in 2015. Made up of natural gas providers, pipeline companies, natural gas appliance manufacturers and marketers, the association’s primary goal is to educate state leaders and industrial, commercial and residential customers on the safe, direct use of natural gas.
