ATLANTA – State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) today announced that she has selected Renee Cail as a recipient of the Yellow Rose/Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award.
“I have known Renee Cail for more than two decades and have been blessed to work with her on multiple occasions on issues that negatively affect our community,” said Rep. Davis. “She has an unselfish passion to serve our community and make it a better place to live. This award is long overdue for this champion of our community.”
Cail has worked in environmental justice for many years, where she advocates for legislative initiatives to provide clean air, water and soil for Georgians. In 2009, she became a member of Citizens for a Healthy and Safe Environment (CHASE), and she became president of CHASE in 2013. Cail assists communities in addressing toxic emissions that harm predominantly African American, rural and disenfranchised communities. Some of Cail’s achievements include assisting with litigation on behalf of these residents and educating about hazardous chemicals and climate change. She has hosted community events, organized protests and participated in strategic planning events. Cail has been an advocate since she was a teenager in South Central Los Angeles.
This award was created in honor of former State Representative Nikki T. Randall, who became the first African American female elected to the Georgia General Assembly. Former Rep. Randall served as chair of the Georgia Legislative Women’s Caucus. Every year during Women’s History Month, this caucus recognizes outstanding women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and inspiration embodied by former Rep. Randall.
Rep. Davis also introduced a privileged resolution, House Resolution 846, to honor Cail, which was adopted by the Georgia House of Representatives on Feb 24, 2022.
