ATLANTA – State Representative Andrew Welch (R-Locust Grove) is excited about the passage of House Bill 918, legislation that will change Georgia’s tax code by cutting individual and corporate state income taxes. HB 918 was signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal on Friday, March 2, 2018.
“I am proud to inform my constituents that the House passed a significant tax reform bill that will allow them to keep more of their hard-earned dollars,” said Rep. Welch. “Georgia has been named the No. 1 state in which to do business for the past five years, and legislation such as this will ensure that Georgia retains this prestigious title for years to come.”
HB 918 will double the state standard deduction for Georgia taxpayers for all filing statuses, effective Jan. 1, 2018, and will reduce the income tax rate for individuals and businesses from 6 percent to 5.75 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2019. The legislation will further reduce the tax rate to 5.5 percent, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Finally, this tax proposal will address the state revenue projections resulting from the recent Federal Tax Act.
