Rep. Wilkerson Reads to Rising Kindergarten Students

ATLANTA – Georgia House Minority Whip David Wilkerson (D-Powder Springs) recently participated in a virtual reading of “Can You Touch A Color?” for students and teachers of the New Era Learning Center. The reading was organized by Voices for Georgia’s Children to support the New Era Learning Center’s rising kindergarten summer transition program.

“Prioritizing a primary education is fundamental to our children’s success,” said Whip Wilkerson. “As a father of two, I know how crucial it is to begin reading to children at a young age. I commend the Voices for Georgia’s Children and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning for not only organizing this event, but for recognizing the importance of educating our youth. This was a great opportunity and I look forward to participating in events like these for years to come.”

Education has been a focus of Whip Wilkerson’s legislative agenda since he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011. During his time in office, he has authored and co-sponsored several bills that sought to improve the education system in Georgia. Whip Wilkerson plans to hold several meetings prior to the next legislative session to discuss students’ educational needs during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representative David Wilkerson represents the citizens of District 38, which includes portions of Cobb County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as House Minority Whip. He also serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Juvenile Justice, Ethics, Rules, Retirement and Science and Technology committees.
