ATLANTA – State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway) today announced that Governor Nathan Deal recently signed House Bill 739 into law. HB 739, which Rep. Williams sponsored during the 2018 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly, establishes the Tracy Rainey Act.
“I’m proud to announce that Gov. Deal has signed the Tracy Rainey Act into law,” said Rep. Williams. “HB 739 simply names an existing military-friendly Georgia law after Tracy Rainey, the wife of former 3rd Infantry Division Commanding General James Rainey. Mrs. Rainey constantly reminded me of the difficulties that spouses of active-duty military face when trying to be licensed in Georgia. I’m thankful for the diligent efforts of my colleagues in the House Military Affairs Working Group, as well as all members of the Georgia General Assembly who supported this measure.”
HB 739 specifies that a code section in Georgia law relating to professional certification of military spouses will be known as the Tracy Rainey Act. The existing code section was established by House Bill 245 from the 2017 legislative session of the Georgia General Assembly. HB 245 required the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to streamline the process to allow military spouses to qualify for temporary certificates, certificates by endorsement or expedited certificates when moving to Georgia.
