ATLANTA – State Representative Yasmin Neal (D-Jonesboro) today launched local aid efforts for the Tara Woods apartment tenants following the Clayton County Water Authority’s decision to discontinue water services at the complex starting today, July 10. Rep. Neal has already mobilized volunteers to assist with the temporary relocation of tenants and food donations.
“I am humbled by the citizens who immediately stepped up to help their fellow Clayton County neighbors,” said Rep. Neal. “This is what community is about. All of our volunteers so far have been able to organize and activate to help our community. The services are being offered for free, especially for those citizens who do not have transportation.”
The Clayton County Water Authority recently announced its plan to turn off the complex’s water due to the complex’s owner failure to pay nearly $98,000 in outstanding water bills.
After the Clayton County Water Authority announced its decision over the weekend, Rep. Neal began contacting a number of community stakeholders to organize transportation and food services at no charge to tenants.
Rep. Neal is currently working with the following organizations and individuals to help Tara Woods tenants: CASA in Action, Nancy Barahona and members of the Special Projects Committee of the Democratic Party of Clayton County. Several church congregations have also offered to volunteer, including Pastor Terry Woodard and Victory in Christ Ministries in Riverdale.

Representative Yasmin Neal represents the citizens of District 79, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Judiciary Non-Civil, Juvenile Justice and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
