ATLANTA – Yesterday the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Jon Burns was appointed Chairman of the Special Rules Committee and member of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs; Game, Fish and Parks; Interstate Cooperation; and Transportation Committees.
“I am honored to be serving in this new House leadership capacity,” said Rep. Burns. “I will continue to work for the betterment of my district and all of the people of Georgia.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
“Congratulations to Representative Burns on his assignments and responsibilities as we start the 2009 Session,” said Speaker Glenn Richardson. “The assignments announced today represent the right balance of skills, leadership and experience to continue leading the House.”
