ATLANTA – Yesterday the Committee on Assignments, chaired by Speaker Glenn Richardson, announced the committee assignments for the 2009 – 2010 legislative sessions. Representative Penny Houston was appointed Chairman of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee and member of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Banks and Banking, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight.
“I’m excited to be selected as Chair of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee,” said Rep. Houston. “I feel that this will provide me the opportunity to continue to work on appropriations as well as work with different agencies to make sure our tax dollars are spent appropriately.”
The Committee on Assignments is chaired by the Speaker and includes several other members of House leadership. This committee is in charge of deciding House Floor seating, office, and committee assignments. The committee was first created in 2005 in an attempt to make a more open selection process.
