ATLANTA – The January 2015 edition of Georgia Trend Magazine recently named State Representative Lynn Smith (R-Newnan) one of the Most Influential Georgians of 2015. This is the fifth consecutive year that Rep. Smith has received this recognition.
“It is an honor that Georgia Trend has recognized me for their 100 Most Influential Georgians 2015 Georgia’s Power List,” said Rep. Lynn Smith. “Since I have been elected to serve the good people of House District 70, I have worked hard to make sure that our voice is heard at the state level. In my role as Chair of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, I have championed policies that support sound economic principles, while protecting our environment and the quality of life of all Georgians.”
Rep. Smith was recognized as an accomplished legislator, business person and civic leader, as well as for her leadership on the brownfields program legislation. Rep. Smith authored the brownfields program legislation, which offers tax incentives and liability protection for those who clean up environmentally damaged land.
According to Georgia Trend, the selection process for the year’s most influential individuals is a year-round process for the editorial staff of the magazine. Individuals are selected exclusively by the Georgia Trend editorial staff based on the staff’s knowledge and observations of the state’s power structure.
Georgia Trend Magazine is Georgia’s only statewide business publication in the market. In a list that has become an annual tradition, naming the “who’s who” of Georgia, the “Most Influential Georgians: Georgia’s Power List” also includes Speaker David Ralston, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Minority Leader Stacey Abrams (D-Atlanta), U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, and Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black, among many others.
Rep. Smith has an extensive history of volunteering in her community. In addition to chairing several committees such as the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, the Newnan-Coweta Public Library, and the Newnan Junior Service League, she has given of her time to several other worthy causes and organizations. She and her husband, Charles, recently retired as business owners from Murray Printing Co., a business established in 1845. She also taught in the Coweta County School system and continues to be a school volunteer in the HD 70 community.
Representative Lynn Smith represents the citizens of District 70, which includes portions of Carroll and Coweta counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 1996, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, and Rules committees.
