Representative McKillip Introduces House Bill 121

ATLANTA – Representative Doug McKillip (R-Athens) announced today the introduction of House Bill 121. This legislation protects the rights of Georgia consumers purchasing insurance policies.

“When dealing with customer disputes, discretionary clauses create an uneven playing field by allowing insurers to construe and interpret the terms of insurance contracts in the most advantageous way possible for themselves,” said Rep. McKillip. “Now is the time to have an open and honest conversation about the handling of insurance coverage disputes in Georgia. I welcome all stakeholders to the table to discuss the pros and cons of this bill as we all work towards finding the best solution for Georgians.”

HB 121 would ban “discretionary clauses” in Georgia in certain insurance contracts. Over 20 state legislatures and state commissioners of insurance have already banned these clauses in other states.
