Reps. Sandra Scott, Kim Schofield, Viola Davis Congratulate Atlanta Native Coco Gauff on U.S. Open Win

ATLANTA – State Representatives Sandra Scott (D-Rex), Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) and Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) congratulate Atlanta native Coco Gauff on her recent 2023 U.S. Open women’s Grand Slam title.

“Our history will never be erased,” said Rep. Scott. “Congratulations to Coco Gauff, an Atlanta native, for her incredible win at the U.S. Open. They can take books out of libraries and schools but our history continues to be made every day. They can never take away the impact that Coco Gauff made on the world at the young age of 18. They can never take away our history. So, congratulations to Coco Gauff, her mom and dad; you have made us proud. Our history continues to grow and grow. Congratulations, Coco, on this remarkable achievement!”

Coco Gauff won her first major title on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the U.S. Open with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff is the youngest American to win the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999 and the first American player to win a major title since Sofia Kenin at the Australian Open in 2020.

Representative Sandra Scott represents the citizens of District 76, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves as the Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip. She also serves on the Banks & Banking, Defense & Veterans Affairs, Human Relations & Aging, Insurance and Reapportionment and Redistricting committees.

Representative Kim Schofield represents the citizens of District 63, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Urban Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Health, Interstate Cooperation and Small Business Development committees.

Representative Viola Davis represents the citizens of District 87, which includes portions of DeKalb County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2018 and currently serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Insurance, Interstate Cooperation, Natural Resources & Environment and Urban Affairs committees.
