Reps. Spencer and Corbett and Sen. Ligon Announce Funding in State Budget for Kingsland Technical College

ATLANTA – State Representatives Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine) and John Corbett (R-Lake Park) and State Senator William Ligon (R-Brunswick) today announced that House Bill 684, the Fiscal Year 2019 (FY 2019) budget, includes funding for the Kingsland, Georgia, campus of Coastal Pines Technical College.

“The local delegation and I have worked tirelessly with House and Senate leadership, as well as the governor’s office, to shepherd this line item appropriation through an unpredictable legislative process over the years,” said Rep. Spencer. “Cultivating key political relationships over this process was instrumental in securing this final phase of funding. This moment is a monumental achievement for economic development and work force needs in Camden County. Many local community leaders have also contributed to make this success possible. This has been a team effort by many.”

“It’s a great day for Camden County, and this has been a long-time coming,” said Rep. Corbett. “I am glad that the students in Camden County will have a technical college that can provide the training and hands-on experience to equip them for the jobs of the future.”

“I am pleased that the budget allocates $17,795,000 in bonds for the construction of a new Coastal Pines Technical College campus in Kingsland,” said Sen. Ligon. “Our community will benefit greatly from more educational opportunities that will be offered at the technical college.”

The FY 2019 budget appropriates $1.6 million to provide nearly $18 million in 20-year bonds for the construction of a new Camden County campus of Coastal Pines Technical College. Additionally, the FY 2019 budget includes $11.6 million for the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) to support TCSG’s statewide workforce development efforts.

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, the House gave final passage to the FY 2019 budget by adopting a conference committee report, and the budget will now go to Governor Nathan Deal for consideration.
