Speaker David Ralston Receives Champion of Small Business Award

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) received a Champion of Small Business award from the National Coalition for Capital. The Champion of Small Business Award recognizes individuals for demonstrating leadership in supporting policies and initiatives designed to promote access to capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs, especially those in economically distressed communities.

“Access to capital is one of the single biggest obstacles small businesses must overcome in today’s challenging economic environment,” said House Speaker David Ralston. “I am humbled by this recognition and will continue pushing for legislation that enables small businesses throughout the state to access the resources needed to foster growth and success.”

The National Coalition for Capital hosts an annual awards ceremony each year to recognize individuals for taking a leading role in fostering access to capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The National Coalition for Capital announced this award at its annual awards ceremony on August 8 in San Antonio, Texas.

“This award recognizes Speaker Ralston’s important work to preserve and create jobs through access to capital policy that helps Georgia small businesses grow and develop,” said Michael Votta, Executive Director of the National Coalition for Capital. “Speaker Ralston has demonstrated he is a champion of small business, and his efforts will have an enduring positive impact on Georgia.”

David Ralston was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1992, where he served until 1998 when he won the Republican nomination for Attorney General of Georgia. In 2002, Ralston was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, where he served as a committee chair and vice chair. In January of 2010, he was elected the 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives.
