Speaker Jon Burns, House of Representatives Take Strong Stand to Support Border Security

ATLANTA – Today, Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) and members of the Georgia House of Representatives, held a press conference to express their support for stronger border security and to applaud the adoption of House Resolution 1019, sponsored by State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys), which expresses support for increased protection for America’s borders in the pursuit of ending the illegal immigration.

“Illegal immigration is not a red state or a blue state issue—it is an every state issue, and that includes right here in Georgia. The massive increase in illegal immigration has caused a humanitarian, public safety, and economic crisis across the country—and cannot continue,” said Speaker Burns. “House Resolution 1019 is our pledge to Governor Kemp and the people of Georgia that we stand united against lawlessness at our border and in support of legal immigration, affirming out commitment to safeguarding our state’s interests and upholding the rule of law.”

“House Resolution 1019 is a declaration of Georgia’s unwavering stance against the chaos unfolding at our border,” said Rep. Sainz. “By standing with Governor Kemp, we’re not just addressing illegal immigration; we’re investing in our state’s future, protecting taxpayers, and ensuring that law and order prevail. The adoption of this resolution is not about partisanship; it’s about protecting our communities and preserving the integrity of legal immigration for generations to come.”

House Resolution 1019 also supports any action taken by Governor Brian Kemp to allocate resources and assistance to protect the southern border, as well as the actions of Governor Greg Abbott to safeguard the people of Texas. Further, HR 1019 encourages Congress to close the southern border and reinstate funding, as well as construction of the border wall. Finally, this resolution condemns President Joe Biden’s executive actions relating to the southern border and urges for the reinstatement of former-President Donald Trump’s border policies, specifically Executive Order 13768 and Proclamation 9844.
