ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City) today announced that he has partnered with St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System, local churches and an advisory group of 10 local faith leaders in Savannah to expand COVID-19 vaccination efforts for underserved communities. Through this partnership, Rep. Gilliard seeks to create points of distribution to vaccinate the underserved and ensure the community has vital information to address misconceptions about the COVID vaccine.

Georgia House Democratic Caucus Responds to Citizen’s Arrest Reform Legislation

ATLANTA – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC), led by House Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon), today responded to Governor Brian Kemp’s bipartisan plan to address Georgia’s citizen’s arrest statute, which is an issue that Georgia House Democrats have worked to repeal before a video of Ahmaud Arbery’s death was released in 2020. The caucus is encouraged by the support of repealing and reforming the citizen’s arrest law since the release of this video, and the caucus believes the law is tied to slave-owning and emboldened three men to kill Mr. Arbery.

Rep. Gilliard Pre-Files Legislation to Honor First 33 Black Georgia State Legislators

ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Garden City) recently pre-filed legislation which would honor the first 33 Black state legislators of the Georgia General Assembly. House Bill 48 would authorize the state to create a monument recognizing these legislators at the State Capitol.
