ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah) will host the “Come Get Your Keys” housing fair on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Garden City Empowerment Center.
At the event, attendees will have an opportunity to become qualified for state and local homeownership programs. This event will feature the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Georgia Dream homeownership program, the Savannah DreamMaker Home Purchase Assistance program, representatives from Select Mortgage and area realtors. Over the last six years, Rep. Gilliard has partnered with DCA’s Georgia Dream to help more than 240 people find homes and/or receive down payment assistance from the state.
“The challenge many of my constituents face is moving from renting to owning,” said Rep. Gilliard. “The average rent for a three bedroom in Savannah is approximately $1,200, and I continue to receive calls from constituents who have to vacate the homes they’re renting because they can no longer afford these increased prices. This event will help connect constituents with real pathways towards homeownership.”
