Rep. Karen Lupton Urges Federal Government to Remove Rideshare Sexual Assault Liability Shield from Federal House Bill

ATLANTA – State Representative Karen Lupton (D–Chamblee) recently signed onto a letter with 285 female state lawmakers and 128 members of Congress in demanding the removal of rideshare sexual assault liability shields from a proposed federal house bill – the BUILD America 250 Act. The letter urges U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson to reject the rideshare liability provision in the upcoming transportation bill.

Rep. Karen Lupton Urges CareSource and Peach State Health Plan to Return to Agreed-Upon Medicaid Reimbursement Rates

ATLANTA – State Representative Karen Lupton (D–Chamblee) urges CareSource and Peach State Health Plan to rescind recent decisions to reduce Medicaid reimbursement rates and return to their previously agreed-upon reimbursement rates until the next reenrollment period. These private care management organizations (CMOs) recently notified providers of reimbursement reductions to 80 percent of the Medicaid fee schedule, effective in May.

Reps. Esther Panitch and Karen Lupton Applaud Unanimous Passage of Legislation to Establish Family Justice Centers and Preserve Sexual Assault Evidence 

ATLANTA – State Representatives Esther Panitch (D-Sandy Springs) and Karen Lupton (D-Chamblee) applaud the final passage of House Bill 1283 to allow for the creation of Family Justice Centers, which are multiagency centers that provide coordinated services to victims of family violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking and associated crimes. HB 1283 would also require law enforcement to retain sexual assault evidence for up to 10 years if a victim does not immediately report the abuse.
