The Georgia House of Representatives to Recognize Author Karin Slaughter

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced that the Georgia House of Representatives will recognize best selling author Karin Slaughter with an Invitation Resolution on Thursday, August 25, 2011 during the Special Legislative Session.

“Karin Slaughter has authored 11 thrillers that have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide,” said Speaker Ralston. “She has also demonstrated her great passion for the written word through her support of public libraries. I am proud to recognize Karin in the Georgia House of Representatives for her accomplishments which she has achieved all over the world.”

Slaughter has been recognized as a # 1 best selling author in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, the Netherlands and Germany, and a # 3 bestselling author in the United States. She also created a website called SaveTheLibraries.com where proceeds from the sale of certain merchandise go to support public libraries.

“With ‘Save the Libraries,’ our goal is to make people understand that the funding of American libraries should be a matter of national security. Keeping libraries open, giving access to all children to all books is vital to our nation’s sovereignty,” said Slaughter. “For years, librarians have been soldiers on the front line of the battle for our place in the world, and in many cases they are getting the least amount of support our communities can offer. It’s time to give back and stand up for them.”

The Georgia House of Representatives will go into session on Thursday, August 25 at 10:00 AM. Slaughter’s recognition can be watched live on the internet at www.legis.ga.gov, Live Broadcasts, House Chamber.

Slaughter is the daughter of Howard Slaughter of Blue Ridge, Georgia.
