Wilkes County Awarded Grant to Aid Area Infrastructure

The OneGeorgia Authority Board recently awarded Wilkes County $350,000 in grant funding to assist with the acquisition of land to be used as an industrial park. Representatives Mickey Channell and Barry Fleming, along with Senator Jim Whitehead worked to secure the financial assistance necessary to enhance regional competitiveness.

OneGeorgia’s Equity Fund provides assistance to communities for the purpose of promoting the health, welfare, safety and economic security of citizens throughout the state. The newly acquired funding in Wilkes County will allow the area to provide a competitive and marketable location for prospective industries, as well as the creation of new employment opportunities.

“Job creation in Wilkes County is very important,” remarked Representative Mickey Channell. “I am pleased that the Wilkes County delegation has been able to work with Governor Perdue in creating 60 jobs with the recent opening of the probation detention center. Additionally, with this OneGeorgia grant, I am very optimistic that more new jobs will be coming in the future.”
