ACCG Honors Rep. Debbie Buckner With 2023 Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA – State Representative Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City) was recently honored by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with a 2023 Legislative Service Award. The ACCG recognized Rep. Buckner for her work to increase funding to clean up hazardous waste sites.

“I am honored to be recognized by ACCG,” said Rep. Buckner. “I was proud to work together on this important issue with the hope that these additional funds will clean up hazardous waste sites all across Georgia.”

Rep. Buckner served as the main sponsor for House Bill 31, a 2023 ACCG legislative priority. HB 31 dedicates the state’s hazardous waste management fee and the hazardous substance reporting fee to the Hazardous Waste Trust Fund. This legislation ensures that all fees that contribute to the trust fund are “statutorily dedicated,” which provides additional funding to clean up hazardous waste sites and help remediate old, unlined landfills.

The ACCG Legislative Service Awards program honors members of the Georgia General Assembly for their work during the legislative session. Todd Edwards, ACCG’s deputy director of governmental affairs, presented Rep. Buckner with her award during a recent Talbot County Commission meeting.

“The annual Legislative Service Awards program allows ACCG, on behalf of Georgia’s county commissioners, to express appreciation to the dedicated members of the Georgia General Assembly,” said ACCG Executive Dave Willis. “This program showcases the importance of state and local officials working together to best serve those who call our state home.”

Rep. Buckner is a member of the House Natural Resources and Environment Committee, where she has many opportunities to influence legislation impacting county governments. ACCG expressed appreciation for her continued efforts to protect the environment.
