Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick Appointed to New Subcommittee on Artificial Intelligence of the House Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) was appointed by House Technology and Infrastructure Innovation Committee Chairman Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth) to serve on the committee’s newly created Subcommittee on Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“I am honored and excited to work with this bipartisan subcommittee to better understand AI’s impending influence on the tech ecosystem in Georgia,” said Rep. Kendrick. “While AI has the potential to create new job opportunities, it can also lead to job displacement and exacerbate existing inequalities. Tech-centered policies are at the forefront of my legislative focus, and I look forward to addressing growing concerns about bias and equity in AI systems.”

The subcommittee will work to examine the risks and benefits associated with AI and vet legislative initiatives based on its findings. Specifically, this subcommittee will meet with area experts and stakeholders to determine if and how AI can be better regulated to protect Georgians, while also supporting job-producing companies that utilize this technology.

State Representative Brad Thomas (R-Woodstock) will serve as the chairman of the subcommittee. The following legislators were also appointed to the bipartisan subcommittee: State Representatives Clint Crowe (R-Jackson), Matt Dubnik (R-Gainesville), Ginny Earhart (R-Marietta), Rick Jasperse (R-Jasper), Brian Prince (D-Augusta) and Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys).

Established by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) earlier this year, the House Technology & Infrastructure Innovation Committee is charged with working on issues involving new and emerging technologies and their implications for Georgia’s economy.

Rep. Kendrick is the founder of the annual “Tech for All” policy conference, which focuses on diversity in technology, raising public awareness and influencing policy for issues affecting the tech industry in Georgia.

Representative Dar’shun Kendrick represents the citizens of District 95, which includes portions of DeKalb, Gwinnett and Rockdale counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2010 and currently serves on the Interstate Cooperation, Judiciary Non-Civil, Juvenile Justice, Small Business Development and Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees.
