Georgia House Democratic Caucus to Hold Statewide Public Hearing on Maternal Mortality

ATLANTA – State Representative Park Cannon (D-Atlanta), Secretary of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC), and members of the GHDC will hold a statewide public hearing on maternal mortality on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta.

The GHDC is seeking effective policy solutions to improve practices that increase health outcomes and decrease maternal mortality in Georgia.

“The 2023 Medicaid redetermination process was disproportionately impactful to the same Georgians who are on the maternal mortality pipeline,” said Rep. Cannon. “For this reason and more, the Maternal Mortality committee was created, and we invite you to attend, amplify and testify on your solutions.”

Members of the GHDC Committee on Maternal Mortality include: GHDC Secretary Rep. Park Cannon, GHDC Vice Chair Rep. Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain), and State Representatives Saira Draper (D-Atlanta), Lydia Glaize (D-Fairburn), Karen Lupton (D-Chamblee), Ruwa Romman (D-Duluth), Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) and Ann Allen Westbrook (D-Savannah).

GHDC members invite the public to attend this hearing. Committee members have begun to request supporting documents relevant to addressing maternal mortality in Georgia, to be submitted no later than January 4, 2024. For example, annual reports from perinatal organizations, factsheets, etc. Documents may be submitted via email to park.cannon@house.ga.gov.
