Rep. Kim Schofield Touts Sen. Ossoff and Rep. Johnson’s Legislation to Boost Opportunities for Georgia’s Minority Owned Small Businesses

ATLANTA – State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) touts U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and U.S. Representative Hank Johnson’s (D-GA-04) introduction of legislation that seeks to boost opportunities for Georgia’s women and minority-owned small businesses. Known as the Small Business Contracting Fairness Act, this legislation would amend the bipartisan infrastructure law, allowing more Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) to qualify for federally supported contracting opportunities and compete for critical infrastructure projects upgrades across Georgia.

“I wholeheartedly support the Small Business Contracting Fairness Act,” said Rep. Schofield. “As a member of the Georgia House Small Business Committee, this important legislation ensures that small businesses have an equal opportunity to participate in government contracts, promoting fairness and economic growth. By removing the exclusion of certain small businesses from the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, we empower women and minority-owned entrepreneurs and drive innovation and create new opportunities in our communities. I urge fellow lawmakers to support this bill and help level the playing field for small businesses across our nation.”

Representative Kim Schofield represents the citizens of District 63, which includes portions of Fulton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Urban Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Health, Interstate Cooperation and Small Business Development committees.
