House Agriculture Committee Announces Special Investigatory Subcommittee

ATLANTA – Today Representatives Billy Maddox (R-Zebulon) and Kevin Levitas (D- Atlanta) led a press conference announcing the creation of the Consumer Protection Investigation and Oversight Subcommittee. This subcommittee was appointed by House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman Tom McCall (R- Elberton). It has been tasked to evaluate all aspects of the production, distribution, delivery and safety of consumer products, including but not limited to, agricultural products in the state of Georgia.

“Recent events around the country have shown the need for us to look into product safety in the state of Georgia,” said Rep. Maddox.

“The goal of this subcommittee is to ensure that products produced in Georgia, as well as those brought into the state, are safe. We will also try to determine if there has been any kind of breakdown in our current laws designed to protect consumers,” said Rep. Levitas.

The Consumer Protection Investigation and Oversight Subcommittee will be co-chaired by Representatives Billy Maddox and Kevin Levitas. Representatives Jay Roberts (R- Ocilla), Ellis Black (D-Valdosta), Terry England (R- Auburn), Jon Burns (R-Newington), Lee Anderson (R- Grovetown), and Tom McCall will also serve on the subcommittee.
