House Special Rules Committee to Hold Meeting Today on Resolution for New Study Committee on Social Media Platforms and Accountability

ATLANTA – The House Special Rules Committee, chaired by State Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys), will hold a meeting on House Resolution 119 TODAY, March 15, 2023, at 4 p.m. in Room 406 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in Atlanta.

Sponsored by Rep. Sainz, HR 119 would create a new House Study Committee on Social Media Platforms and Accountability for the remainder of the calendar year. This study committee will work to identify legislative solutions to address social media accountability, including censorship, effects on youth health, data regarding the impacts on teenage girls, consumer data usage and mental health effects. Ahead of the 2024 legislative session, the study committee would submit its findings and legislative recommendations to the state legislature.

During the hearing, Rep. Sainz will introduce a substitute to HR 119 for this study committee to operate under the House’s authority and ensure that the scope of the study committee aligns with broader priorities.
