ATLANTA – The House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources, chaired by House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross), will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. at Old Toccoa Farm in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
Created by House Resolution 519, this study committee will examine the public’s right to fish in Georgia’s freshwater resources and examine any inconsistencies or conflicts in the law between the public’s right to fish and private property rights.
“I am looking forward to our committee’s third meeting in Mineral Bluff. As we continue to learn in our travels around Georgia, each community’s relationship with its freshwater fishing resources is different,” said Whip Burchett. “One of my priorities in chairing this committee is ensuring that any recommendations we issue take into account the customs and tradition of every part of Georgia. I look forward to hearing the perspectives of anglers and property owners in northwest Georgia as we work to ensure that our freshwater fisheries continue to thrive for future generations.”
“I am very grateful that our district will be hosting the third meeting of the House Study Committee on Fishing Access to Freshwater Resources,” said Rep. Jonny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge). “Blue Ridge is the trout capital of Georgia, and our constituents are extremely interested in this issue. I think our community will be able to provide some valuable information to the committee members, and we look forward to sharing our ideas.”
