Rep. Erica Thomas to Participate in Edna Umeh Memorial Crosswalk Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Today

ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Edna Umeh memorial crosswalk TODAY, Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 6 p.m. at Lindley Middle School in Mableton.

In Nov. 2017, Ms. Edna Umeh was fatally struck by a vehicle while serving as a crossing guard at Lindley Middle School. Her death prompted a corridor safety audit and installation of safety improvements at this location. This crosswalk will be designated to Ms. Umeh in recognition of her service to the citizens of Cobb County and in memory of her death in the line of duty.

During the 2018 legislative session, Rep. Thomas introduced House Bill 672, or Edna’s Law, to allow law enforcement officers to use speed detection devices while patrolling Georgia public schools. For more information on HB 672, please click here.

House and Senate Reapportionment Committees Announce New Date, Details for Rescheduled Town Hall Hearing in Augusta Area

ATLANTA – The House Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee, chaired by State Representative Bonnie Rich (R-Suwanee), and the Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, chaired by State Senator John F. Kennedy (R-Macon), have rescheduled the August 30, 2021, joint redistricting town hall hearing for the Augusta area to take place on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion in Martinez, GA. Rep. Penny Houston Commends Georgia Jobs and Infrastructure Committees, Makes Constituents Aware of State Recovery Funding

ATLANTA – State Representative Penny Houston (R-Nashville) commends Governor Brian Kemp for creating the Georgia Jobs and Infrastructure Committees to advise on spending the federal coronavirus relief funds that were allocated to Georgia through the American Rescue Plan. Georgia industries impacted by COVID-19 will be able to apply for this state recovery funding during the month of August.
