Rep. Ballinger Elected Vice Chair of Southern Legislative Conference Human Services & Public Safety Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Mandi Ballinger (R-Canton), chairman of the House Juvenile Justice Committee, was recently elected vice chair of the Human Services & Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) on Friday, July 2.

“I am excited to be elected vice chair of the Human Services & Public Safety Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference,” said Rep. Ballinger. “I look forward to working with my colleagues from across the South to address the challenges and opportunities facing the region.”

The mission of the SLC is to promote and strengthen intergovernmental cooperation among its 15 member states. As vice chair of this Human Services & Public Safety Committee, which is comprised of members from each of the 15 member states, Rep. Ballinger will assist the committee’s chair, Arkansas State Representative Fredrick Love. Rep. Ballinger will work with Rep. Love to guide the committee’s policy focus and projects, such as programming for the conference’s 76th Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City next year.

Recent policy issues addressed by the committee include Medicaid enrollment in the southern region, alternative payment models in health care, hospital property tax exemptions and improving outcomes for youth in the juvenile justice system.

Representative Mandi L. Ballinger represents the citizens of District 23, which includes portions of Cherokee County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012 and currently serves as Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Committee and Vice Chairman of the Special Committee on Access to the Civil Justice System. She also serves as Secretary of the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee and is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Information and Audits, Judiciary Non-Civil, Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment, Rules and Transportation committees.
