ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Bill Hitchens (R-Rincon) as the Chairman of the House Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee. Rep. Hitchens will also serve as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Economic Development & Tourism, Public Safety & Homeland Security and Transportation committees.
“As a Marine Vietnam Veteran, a retired Commander in the Coast Guard Reserve, the first director of the Georgia Office of Homeland Security and the retired commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety and the Colonel of the State Patrol, I sincerely appreciate Speaker Ralston and the Committee on Assignments for permitting me to have a voice in the areas that I have devoted my adult life,” said Rep. Hitchens. “Most citizens are aware that in today’s world, national defense, homeland security and law enforcement are important and often controversial issues plaguing our nation and our state, and I am eager to serve our citizens on these crucial committees. It is also significant to me to recognize and assist our veterans; they stood tall when our country called, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
