Rep. Carl Gilliard Issues Statement in Response to Redistricting Ruling Made by U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones

ATLANTA – State Representative Carl Gilliard (D-Savannah), chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, today issued the following statement in response to the recent ruling made by U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones which calls for Georgia’s congressional and state legislative districts to be redrawn before the 2024 election:

“The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is deeply concerned about the implications of Judge Jones’ recent ruling on redistricting. Redistricting is a critical process that shapes the future of our democracy, ensuring fair and equal representation for all Georgia citizens. It is essential that this process is conducted impartially, transparently and in a way that safeguards the rights of all communities. We believe that every vote and voice must be protected, and it is our duty to ensure the redistricting process is carried with upmost fairness and integrity. We are committed to addressing any concerns or discrepancies that may arise in the wake of the ruling. As the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus represents over three million Black and brown residents we will be monitoring the next steps in the process of fair districts. Our commitment to ensuring the fair representation of all Georgians remains unwavering.”
