Rep. Tim Fleming Named Chairman of House Higher Education Dual Enrollment & Tuition Equalization Grant Ad Hoc Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Tim Fleming (R-Covington) was recently named chairman of the Dual Enrollment & Tuition Equalization Grant Ad Hoc Committee of the House Higher Education Committee. Rep. Fleming was appointed as chairman by House Higher Education Committee Chairman Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta).

“It’s an honor to chair the House Higher Education Dual Enrollment & Tuition Equalization Grant Ad Hoc Committee that has been charged with looking into these two vitally important programs for Georgia students to find efficiencies and enhancements that might be made legislatively,” said Rep. Fleming.

The Dual Enrollment & Tuition Equalization Grant Ad Hoc Committee of the House Higher Education Committee was established by Chairman Martin to conduct an in-depth review of two programs that affect many students and families throughout the state of Georgia. The committee has heard from stakeholders involved in both programs and will continue to work to examine how both programs operate in the coming months. The objective of this ad hoc committee is to gain a full understanding of these programs, discover their strengths and weaknesses and recommend changes or improvements as necessary.

During the committee’s first meeting on August 30, 2023, committee members heard from the President of the Student Finance Commission with overviews on Tuition Equalization Grants and Dual Enrollment and discussed the committee’s direction for future meetings. The committee met again on September 15, 2023, to discuss the topics surrounding Dual Enrollment that were introduced at the August 30th meeting. The committee was joined by representatives from the Technical College System of Georgia, the University System of Georgia and the Georgia Student Finance Commission to contribute to the conversation and address specific questions.
