Rep. Chuck Martin Reappointed Chairman of the House Higher Education Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments reappointed State Representative Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta) as the Chairman of the House Higher Education Committee. Rep. Martin will also serve as a member on the Special Committee on Election Integrity and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, as well as on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement, Rules, Science and Technology and Ways & Means committees.

“I am honored to once again have the opportunity to lead the House Higher Education Committee,” said Rep. Martin. “I will continue to work hard with the committee members, the higher education community, taxpayers and students, placing a priority on preparing Georgia’s future workforce. Even in these difficult times, it is more important than ever that we all work together to prepare for the future.”

The House Higher Education Committee is charged with the responsibility for legislation that influences the University System of Georgia and other universities, colleges and postsecondary education opportunities in the state. It also considers legislation that impacts student financial aid.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Chuck Martin represents the citizens of District 49, which includes portions of Fulton County. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and currently serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Committee. He also serves on the Special Committee on Election Integrity and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement, Rules, Science and Technology, Creative Arts & Entertainment, Ways & Means committees.
