Rep. Cooper to Attend NSCL State Policy Collaborative Meeting on Public Health

ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), Chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, was recently nominated by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) state policy collaborative meeting, “Public Health Winnable Battles,” from July 10 – 12, 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina.

“I am honored that Speaker Ralston selected me to attend this important policy meeting to foster interstate collaboration among our state legislatures,” said Rep. Cooper. “NCSL provides an incredible resource for legislators and is dedicated to solving problems that impact our nation. I look forward to participating in this meeting to consider best practices and legislative initiatives that will improve public health in Georgia.”

The NSCL’s invitational meeting is specifically designed for legislators interested in public health, including chairs or vice-chairs of related legislative committees. The meeting will bring together lawmakers, legislative staff and executive branch health officials, as well as other stakeholders, to discuss some of the most pressing preventable public health topics, including the consequences of opioids, adverse childhood experiences, HIV, health care access points and payment options. The meeting will include participants from the following five states: Alabama; Georgia; Kentucky; Mississippi; and West Virginia. Each state team will create action steps to address topics of concern over the next year.
