Rep. Dar’shun Kendrick to Host Community Event on Mental Health’s Impact on Criminal Justice System, Public May RSVP for Free Event Now

ATLANTA – State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia) will host a community event focused on the impact of mental health on the criminal justice system on Tuesday, September 26, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the DeKalb Community Service Board (445 Winn Way) in Decatur. Special guests will include Sherry Boston, district attorney of DeKalb County; Kim Jones, executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Georgia; Omotayo Alli, executive director of the Georgia Public Defender Council; and Fabio van der Merwe, chief executive officer, DeKalb Community Service Board.

“For the last 10 years, I have served on the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, hearing every criminal law bill under consideration by the legislature,” said Rep. Kendrick. “The mental health discussion cannot be separated from the criminal justice discussion we have in our state every year. Additionally, personal experience has taught me that we need to find ways to discuss the connection between the two to provide the upmost safety to our citizens.”
