Rep. Hogan Commends Opening of Mobile Community Health Unit for Glynn and McIntosh Counties

ATLANTA – State Representative Don Hogan (R-St. Simon’s Island) commends the opening of a mobile community health unit for residents of Glynn and McIntosh counties. The Coastal Community Health Services (CCHS) specialized medical unit began operating at various locations across the two counties in October.

“Coastal Community Health Services has become a crucial player in our efforts to building a more robust, secure health care network in Glynn and McIntosh counties,” said Rep. Hogan. “Over the last few years, my colleagues and I in the Georgia House Republican Caucus have worked diligently to remove barriers to accessing health care, like transportation, and expand access through local organizations that successfully bring health care services directly to our lower income communities. I look forward to exploring future legislative opportunities to support organizations like CCHS during the upcoming 2021 legislative session.”

The new CCHS mobile unit will offer high quality family medicine, behavioral health, dental, vision and preventative health care to residents in Glynn and McIntosh counties. The mobile unit welcomes patients regardless if they have medical insurance, and it will not turn away patients because of an inability to pay. Glynn County and McIntosh County businesses, churches or community organizations are able to request services from the CCHS mobile unit.

“Providing access to health care for the entire community is the primary mission of Coastal Community Health Services, and when a community does not have public transportation, we have to physically go where the need is greatest,” said Barbara Meyers, CEO of Coastal Community Health Services. “With our mobile health clinic, we will be driving into neighborhoods and locations to provide residents with quality primary health care. We really could not have acquired this unit without the tremendous support of the community. We look forward to being on the road starting in November.”

The $255,000 unit was funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was recently dedicated in front of the Coastal Community Health Center on Shoppers Way in Brunswick. Guests at the dedication included Rep. Hogan, Reverend Wright Culpepper, Sheila McNeill and Emmitt Nolan, field representative for U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter.

“Representative Don Hogan has been one of our strongest advocates for increasing access to health care in our area,” added Meyers. “Everyone deserves a medical home. He has taken the time to understand the healthcare needs in this community and has been there for us since the day we opened our doors. Always willing to help, Representative Hogan works to bring health care services to families who need it most.”
