Rep. Houston Gaines Requests Legislative Investigation into Athens-Clarke County Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board Appointment Process

ATLANTA – State Representative Houston Gaines (R-Athens), chairman of the House Legislative & Congressional Reapportionment Committee, has requested a legislative investigation regarding the appointment process for the Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board. Rep. Gaines submitted a letter this morning to the House Public Safety & Homeland Security Chairman J. Collins (R-Villa Rica) requesting an investigation to ensure that state law was followed during the recruitment process.

Rep. Gaines has requested that the ACC Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board be dissolved, and that the recruitment process be restarted. If the oversight board appointment process is not restarted, Rep. Gaines has requested that the House Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee consider holding hearings to ensure that state law was followed by the ACC Board of Commissioners.
