ATLANTA –State Representative Lauren Daniel (R-Locust Grove) today delivered an Afternoon Order on the floor of the House of Representatives to share her personal journey to motherhood and to express her appreciation for the support she has received during the Special Legislative Session as she recently welcomed her fourth child into her family.
“I want to thank Speaker Burns and Pro Tem Jones for the kindness that has been shown to me as a new mother,” said Rep. Daniel. “I have brought my son with me to the Capitol every day over the past two weeks, but I want to tell you why this is so important to me personally. At 17 years old as a junior in high school, I found out I was pregnant. My son was born at the beginning of my senior year, and I was told by school administrators that I should no longer attend school in person because I was a distraction. Even further, my counselor advised me that there was no purpose in applying to college because less than 50 percent of teenage mothers ever graduate high school, much less college. However, not only did I finish high school on time, I am also part of the two percent of teenage mothers who have gone on to earn a college degree before the age of 30. As a mother of four and the youngest female member of the Georgia House of Representatives, I know first-hand the many challenges and blessings that come from being a young mother. It is my hope that my experiences will inspire any young female Georgian to trust and believe that her life does not end when a new one begins.”

Representative Lauren Daniel represents the citizens of District 117, which includes portions of Henry and Spalding counties. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the Secretary of the Education and State Planning & Community Affairs committees. She also serves on the Transportation Committee.
