Rep. Mabra’s Superior Court Legislation Receives Final Passage

ATLANTA – The Georgia General Assembly yesterday gave final passage to House Bill 804, sponsored by State Representative Ronnie Mabra (D-Fayetteville). HB 804 would add a fifth judge to the Superior Court in Clayton County and will now go to Governor Nathan Deal for consideration.

“I am extremely pleased with passage of HB 804, and would like to thank my colleagues for their support of this legislation,” said Rep. Mabra. “This bill will add a fifth Superior Court Judge to Clayton County and will help to alleviate the back log of cases in our county and allow cases to move more efficiently. The citizens of Clayton County will be well served with this additional Superior Court Judge.”

HB 804 would add one additional judge to the Clayton Judicial Circuit. The governor would appoint the new judge for a term beginning January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018. His or her successor would be chosen during the November 2018 election cycle in a non-partisan election to fill a four year term.

Gov. Deal will have until May 3 to consider this legislation.
