Rep. Peake Named Elected Official of the Year by Americans for Safe Access

ATLANTA — State Representative Allen Peake (R-Macon) was recently named Elected Official of the Year by Americans for Safe Access (ASA). Rep. Peake was recognized at the ASA Excellence Awards, along with Georgia’s Hope, which received the award for Action Group of the Year, on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

“I was extremely honored and humbled to be recognized by the ASA with this award, because there are so many courageous legislators all over the country that are on the front lines, and making great strides to pass legislation,” said Rep. Peake.  “But the real joy was being able share in celebrating Georgia’s Hope as they were awarded Action Group of the Year. The parents who formed the Georgia’s Hope advocacy group are the real heroes of this movement, and it has been a blessing for me to share this journey with the parents of Georgia’s Hope.”

“Georgia’s Hope is extremely honored to be recognized as the ASA’s advocacy group of the year,” said Blaine and Shannon Cloud with Georgia’s Hope.  “Our organization is made up of many parents and families that have spent countless hours at the Capitol talking to legislators and changing minds.  We are grateful to the legislators in Georgia who passed HB 1 last year, including Rep. Allen Peake, who has been a true champion for our families.  We are committed to continuing our fight until every single patient in Georgia who needs this medicine has it in their hands.”

Rep. Peake and Georgia’s Hope received awards for Elected Official of the Year and Action Group of the Year at an awards banquet honoring all Americans for Safe Access award winners on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Washington, DC.  ASA and advocates from across the country came together for the ASA Excellence Awards to celebrate those who have made a difference in the lives of patients every day.

The ASA Excellence Awards program recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to safe access, programs that exemplify the highest standards and organizations that have conducted activities to promote and expand safe access.

The mission of ASA is to ensure safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic uses and research. ASA works with a grassroots base of over 50,000 members to effect change using public education and direct advocacy at the local, state, and federal level.
