Rep. Richard Smith Named Chairman of the House Rules Committee

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Richard Smith (R-Columbus) as the Chairman of the House Rules Committee.

“The House Rules Committee is the gatekeeper to the House Floor, and as such, leading this committee is a responsibility I take seriously,” said Chairman Smith. “As bills start to make their way through the legislative process, I am only interested in reviewing the good, sound policy that will serve the best interests of Georgia.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

The Rules Committee oversees the flow of legislation from passage in committee and making the determination of what bills should be debated and voted on the House floor.
