ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), chair of the House Health & Human Services Committee, recently received the 2022 Pets’ Best Friend Award from the Georgia Pet Coalition. She will be presented with the award TODAY, April 28, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at the Good Mews Animal Foundation (3805 Robinson Rd.) in Marietta.
“The Georgia Pet Coalition has done an excellent job advocating for animal rights and helping end animal abuse before it begins, and I am honored to receive this recognition from such a dedicated organization,” said Rep. Cooper. “We have a moral obligation to be good shepherds and caretakers of the animals entrusted to us, and I have appreciated partnering with the GPC to ensure that our state laws protect these companions, which are like family members to many of us.”
Rep. Cooper was nominated for the award for her contributions to companion animal protection and her efforts to sponsor several pet protective bills over her career as a representative. The GPC also recognized Rep. Cooper for her voting track record on legislation to support the humane treatment of animals in Georgia.
The GPC is a statewide organization that is dedicated to ending companion animal cruelty and neglect through professional lobbying, passing humane laws and educating law enforcement and the public.
