Rep. Viola Davis Commends Community Activists with Resolutions on Community Activist Day

ATLANTA – State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) recently took part in Community Activist Day, an occasion honoring individuals whose activism aims to create a better world for current and future generations. During the 2024 legislative session, Rep. Davis sponsored House Resolution 1615, officially designating April 29, 2024, as Community Activist Day. This year, Rep. Davis presented Dr. Jacqueline Echols with House Resolution 1673 and Stephen Binney with House Resolution 1674, recognizing and celebrating their dedication and contributions to their communities.

“On Community Activist Day, I was honored to present House Resolutions 1673 to Dr. Jacqueline Echols and 1674 to Stephen Binney, acknowledging their remarkable commitment to environmental leadership and community activism,” said Rep. Davis. “Dr. Echols, serving as board president of the South River Watershed Alliance, demonstrates her dedication to water quality and recreational access through initiatives like the Beyond the Bridge program and South River Water Trail. Dr. Echols inspires us all with her advocacy, and she has been recognized with awards like the Park Pride Inspiration Award. Stephen Binney’s steadfast dedication to improving neighborhoods and advocating for transparency and equity sets a high standard for civic engagement, highlighting the power of collective action in creating a more equitable and sustainable world. His involvement in DeKalb County government, attending numerous meetings and advocating for transparency and equity, highlights his dedication and the democratic process. Stephen’s organizational and leadership talents, combined with his integrity and kindness, have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. I commend their selfless service and inspiring contributions to DeKalb County and Georgia.”

Dr. Jacqueline Echols is an environmental advocate and community leader, holding the role of board president at the South River Watershed Alliance, an organization that works to enhance the water quality and biodiversity of the South River watershed.

Stephen Binney is an active community leader known for his involvement in local governance in DeKalb County, advocating for transparency and equity.

Representative Viola Davis represents the citizens of District 87, which includes portions of DeKalb County.
