ATLANTA – State Representative Yasmin Neal (D-Jonesboro) today offered condolences to the family of Clayton County police officer Armondo Mendoza who died on Monday, April 19, 2021, from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier that morning.
“As a former law enforcement officer at the Clayton County Police Department, I send my heartfelt condolences to the family of the officer, the Clayton County Police Department and his extended family,” said Rep. Neal. “The outpouring of kind words about this young officer upon his passing goes to show the kindness he bestowed while here on this earth. Thank you to Officer Mendoza for his selfless service to his community. I’m sure that God will most definitely say, ‘Well done.’ Rest well. We’ll take it from here.”
Officer Mendoza was injured in a car accident on Tara Blvd. and North Main St. in Jonesboro, and he later died after being rushed to the hospital. Mendoza was 22 years old and had been with the police department for about a year.
Representative Yasmin Neal represents the citizens of District 74, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2020 and currently serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Juvenile Justice and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
