Representative Battles Introduces Legislation to Help School Systems Save Money

ATLANTA — State Representative Paul Battles (R-Cartersville) announces the filing of House Bill 936 – legislation to allow school systems to use their replacement allowance for purchasing new school buses towards the refurbishment of existing school buses.

“During these tough economic times, state government must step back and allow local school systems to take appropriate measures to save money,” said Representative Battles.  “It only makes sense to repair an existing school bus rather than buying a new one as long as the repair is a safe alternative.  Saving taxpayer dollars like this will help school systems adapt to budget cuts without laying off teachers or requiring additional furlough days.”

Co-sponsors of HB 936 include State Representatives Ed Rynders (R-Leesburg), Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla), Brooks Coleman (R-Duluth), Howard Maxwell (R-Dallas), and Mark Hamilton (R-Cumming).

HB 936 is currently in the House Education Committee.  For more information on the bill please click here.
