Representative Chuck Sims Honors EMS Employees

ATLANTA – State Representative Chuck Sims (R-Ambrose) is sponsoring House Resolutions 1249 and 1250 to honor the lives of Teresa Davis and Randall Whiddon. Both employed at Coffee Regional Emergency Medical Services, Davis and Whiddon died on June 6, 2013, when their ambulance collided with a tractor-trailer.

“My heart goes out to the families, who are grieving the tragic loss of these two heroes,” said Rep. Sims. “These brave medics died in the line of duty, serving the citizens of Coffee County.”

Davis was a former dispatcher for Ben Hill County 911 and EMT with regional EMS in Atkinson County. She worked with Coffee Regional EMS since 2002 and was a 14 year veteran of EMS. Davis was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Axon, Georgia. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Gurley of Axson; children: Michella Toler of Fitzgerald, Savannah and Blake Flanagan of Douglas, Ben Davis of Fitzgerald and Gavin Gurley of Axson; grandchildren: Conner Toler, Kenzleigh Toler and Jake Flanagan; mother and step-father: Pat and James Smith of Irwin County; and sisters: Sherry and Allen Walker of Fitzgerald and Rhonda and Donnie Hopkins of Osierfield. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Brantley.

Whiddon was the former director of the Turner County Fire Rescue Services and paramedic for the Coffee Regional Medical Center EMS and Irwin County EMS. He was an active member of Dakota Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Wisham Whiddon of Ashburn; children: Randall Ben Whiddon of Ashburn, Kyle (Tammie) Bobo of Adel, and Kraig Bobo of Ashburn, Missy Teate (Stacey) Hamner of Huntsville, Ala, and Jane Teate of Ashburn; mother, Hester Griffin Whiddon of Ashburn; and siblings: R.F. “Buddy” (June) Whiddon of Ashburn and Benita (Ronald) Fairdoth of Tifton. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
