House Majority Whip James Burchett Announces Whip Team for the 2023-2024 Legislative Term

ATLANTA – Georgia House Majority Caucus Whip James Burchett (R-Waycross) today announced the appointment of his Majority Caucus Whip Team for the 2023-2024 legislative term. 

“It is an honor to serve as the Majority Whip, and I take seriously the task entrusted to me by my colleagues,” said Majority Whip Burchett. “I’m proud to have so many bright and upcoming leaders join our whip team, and I know they will work tirelessly to help advance thoughtful policies to keep Georgia the best place to live, to work and to raise a family.”

Majority Whip Burchett reappointed State Representative Rob Leverett (R-Elberton) as the Chief Deputy Whip.

Whip Burchett also appointed the following members to the Majority Caucus Whip Team: State Representatives Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), Bethany Ballard (R-Warner Robins), Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville), Clint Crowe (R-Jackson), Joseph Gullett (R-Dallas), Leesa Hagan (R-Lyons), Derrick McCollum (R-Chestnut Mountain), Matt Reeves (R-Duluth), Devan Seabaugh (R-Marietta) and Bill Yearta (R-Sylvester).

“I’m honored that Representative Leverett will be continuing to serve with me as Chief Deputy Whip,” said Majority Whip Burchett. “Representative Leverett brings a wealth of experience to the role, and I know he will continue to make his colleagues and his constituents proud.” 

Members of the whip team are responsible for monitoring legislation as it moves through both chambers of the General Assembly and helping their fellow House members understand the details of bills and resolutions. 

Representative James Burchett represents the citizens of District 176, which includes Atkinson and Lanier counties and portions of Coffee, Lowndes and Ware counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as the House Majority Whip. He also serves on the Ethics, Judiciary, Judiciary Non-Civil and Transportation committees. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Rules Committee.
