Legislation Redefining Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Supporting Military Medical Personnel Signed into Law

ATLANTA – State Representative Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), chairman of the House Regulated Industries Committee, recently joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed Senate Bill 449 into law. Carried in the House by State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, this legislation will redefine the role of Georgia’s “advanced practice registered nurses” (APRNs) and support the state’s military medical personnel by establishing a specialized program that will expand certification opportunities. Chairman Powell originally sponsored House Bill 215, which redefined APRNs as individuals licensed by the Georgia Board of Nursing, including certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists and clinical nurse specialists in psychiatric/mental health, and that legislation was incorporated into SB 449.

Rep. Viola Davis Commends Community Activists with Resolutions on Community Activist Day

ATLANTA – State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) recently took part in Community Activist Day, an occasion honoring individuals whose activism aims to create a better world for current and future generations. During the 2024 legislative session, Rep. Davis sponsored House Resolution 1615, officially designating April 29, 2024, as Community Activist Day. This year, Rep. Davis presented Dr. Jacqueline Echols with House Resolution 1673 and Stephen Binney with House Resolution 1674, recognizing and celebrating their dedication and contributions to their communities.

Rep. Sharon Cooper’s Legislation Bringing Key Changes to Pharmacy Regulations Signed into Law

ATLANTA – Today, State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), chair of the House Committee on Public Health, joined Governor Brian Kemp as he signed House Bill 1072 into law. Sponsored by Rep. Cooper, this legislation will enhance pharmacy operations and create more efficient and safe means of distribution of pharmaceuticals across the state.
