ATLANTA – State Representative James Burchett (R-Waycross) seeks to make constituents aware of progress made following the recent CSX train derailment on Thursday, June 30, 2022, in Ware County.
“I want to commend the local officials and CSX representatives for quickly responding to this accident,” said Rep. Burchett. “Fortunately, clean-up efforts have already taken place, and local roads are back open for public use. These train lines play a crucial part in our state’s economy, so I appreciate CSX for their full cooperation with local authorities to ensure that Ware County residents are not impacted and that the transportation of goods can resume quickly and safely on this train line.”
The train derailment on Jamestown Road caused a brief shut down of Jamestown Road from Devandrene Avenue to US 1. Twenty train cars, including the locomotive, were involved in the crash. Four of the 19 cars were empty ethanol cars, and the other 15 were box cars. No leaks and no injuries were initially reported. The road has been cleared of all debris and is open for public use. The railway line was also projected to resume operating during July. Repaving of the road will take place this month, and CSX Transportation is responsible for paying to pave and clean the road.
Representative James Burchett represents the citizens of District 176, which includes all of Atkinson and Lanier counties and portions of Lowndes and Ware counties. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and currently serves as Chair of the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Special Committee on Access to the Civil Justice System and the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight and Transportation committees. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Judiciary Committee.
